The hand injury of Shikhar Dhawan proved to be more serious than it initially looked giving India a massive blow ahead of the 2nd Test, as the opener has been ruled out of the entire Sri Lanka series.

Missing Shikhar Dhawan, who had made second successive hundred in Tests, would be massive blow for Virat Kohli-led Team India, which is trailing 1-0 in the three-match series.

Shikhar Dhawan batted with a bruised hand in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka, making a flowing hundred in the 1st innings, while playing a labouring innings in the second.

The Delhi-born would be needing six weeks to heal, after sustaining a hairline fracture in the hand. Dhawan sustained the injury, when he dropped Kaushal Silva in the slip cordon.

“I sustained the injury because of the catch I dropped (Kaushal Silva off Varun Aaron’s bowling) in the first innings. It affected a little bit on my batting and I wasn’t playing too many shots.”

“If I hadn’t had any pain, my score could have been more,” Shikhar Dhawan had said. “I had also moved out of slips during fielding, because of pain.”

The BCCI in a media release informed: The BCCI medical team has confirmed that opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the remaining part of India’s tour of Sri Lanka – 2015.

Shikhar Dhawan had injured his right hand during the first Test at Galle. He underwent further tests that confirmed a hairline fracture in his hand. He would require four to six weeks to recover from the injury.
