This news might not go down well with the paparazzis as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may not in a mood of allowing wives and girlfriends, WAGS as they are popularly known, to stay with the cricketers in the forthcoming World Cup.

The BCCI is set to stick with its rules of not allowing the WAGS in a major tournament like World Cup. The Board, however, had taken a more liberal approach in previous few occasions but it is unlikely to make any amendments for the World Cup.

The Indian board has taken this decision to keep the players away from any distractions, as the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side will defend its world title in Australia-New Zealand.

India’s vice-captain Virat Kohli was seen hanging out with his celebrity girlfriend Anuskha Sharma during the England tour, while all-rounder Stuart Binny was also caught on the camera with his wife Mayanti Langer.

The official said that the BCCI has no problem if the WAGS are travelling to Australia for the World Cup if “players are kept away from family matters”.

WAGS are allowed to stay with the team generally during long tours, such as the England Test series, in which Team India played five Tests.

However, during the ODIs and tournaments like the World Cup, having family member create logistical problem for the team, so the board doesn’t allow the WAGS to travel with the team.
