The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has announced a mini IPL that will take place in September. Anurag Thakur, president of the BCCI, revealed the board’s plans of organising the league in the working committee meeting.

Thakur revealed that the league will take place outside India and all matches will take place inside two weeks. According to reports, the USA or UAE are two potential venues for the league.

“In the month of September, the BCCI is willing to host a mini IPL or IPL overseas with all the eight teams participating,” Thakur informed at the conclusion of the Board’s Working Committee meeting.

“It will be a shorter format. Not home and away matches but a lesser number of matches,” he added. “In a two-week window we should be able to complete it.”

The BCCI president said that the board will talk to franchisees and other stakeholders before coming out with a detailed plan of the tournament. Broadcaster of the league will also be finalised in the meantime.

“We have to speak to the franchises, broadcasters and look at the revenue model,” Thakur said. “Many countries are willing to host. We have to look at the various time zone (and decide) where we can take it.”
