After been under a cloud for quite some time, left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha has been banned from bowling in the domestic competitions by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) owing to illegal bowling action.

The Indian board has official informed Ojha’s home state, Hyderabad that the left-arm spinner is not allowed to bowl in competitive matches. Hyderabad Cricket Association joint secretary, Purushottam Agarwal informed that they have received a letter from the BCCI regarding this.

“Yes, the BCCI did send us a letter informing about their decision that Ojha needs to undergo rehabilitation programme in regards to action correction,” Agarwal informed.

“However they haven’t intimated us about the timeframe. Ojha is still in Hyderabad but will head for Chennai soon,” he added.

The news has come as a big setback for Ojha, as he is also released by his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Mumbai Indians for the forthcoming season. He, however, was given Rs 50 Lakh ‘Grade B’ contract by the BCCI.

Ojha, who was the man of the match in India’s last Test match at home, will have to work on his bowling action to bring it within the 15-degree allowed limit. He is required to clear his action in next months to be eligible for selection.
