Why Hashim Amla Resigned From Test Captaincy?

Lack of form and playing along with two captains – AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis of ODI and T20 teams respectively – may have made life difficult for Hashim Alma to relinquish the Test captaincy of the South Africa team.

According to sources, Amla wasn’t in his elements during the Indian Test series itself, where his team failed to live upto the expectation. South Africa lost the Test series to India by a 3-1 margin without a semblance of fight.

“He showed signs of not being in his elements. It’s not easy to manage a team with two captains on your side. Still, Amla was doing it well but his bad form wasn’t helping his cause,” a source who watched Amla from close, revealed it to Drcricket7.

Amla led South Africa in 14 Tests out of which his team won four and lost four with six draws. In between those matches, he wasn’t at his best but still produced three hundreds and kept an average of 49.66.

Despite that, he was criticised for his team’s loss in England. After that, Amla resigned from his post following the second Test match at Newlands.

“We have a very tight leadership team: myself, AB, Faf [du Plessis]. AB is very able and a brilliant leader and we will all follow similar goals.”

“Whether I’m pulling the rope, or AB is pulling the rope or Dale [Steyn] is pulling the rope, as long as someone is going in the right direction, we all will go with him,” is what Amla had to say during his official presser.”
