Mitchell McClenaghan just spend two overs in the middle, but his stay was enough to provide the much-needed thrust to Mumbai Indians innings.

McClenaghan was sent ahead of the likes of Jos Buttler and Kieron Pollard, and the move paid off as the big New Zealander made an eight-ball 20, featuring three massive sixes.

In just eight balls, McClenaghan swang the match towards Mumbai Indians, as the Knight Riders were left stunned with his counterattacking batting.

“Ricky’s idea (McClenaghan’s promotion), he was in the dug-out and the left-hander was sent out with leg-spinners bowling, Mitch being a power-hitter we wanted to use that,” Rohit said.

After McClenaghan’s scorcher, it was Jos Buttler’s turn to up the ante and ensure that Mumbai register their first win in the tournament.

The England international played a well-timed innings and stitched a crucial partnership with captain Rohit to take the team home. He made 22-ball 41.

“We started well with the ball, our fielding needs to improve a little bit,” Rohit said. “We have seen Buttler play those kind of innings again and again for England. it was my duty, responsibility to bat till the end.”
