Pune Loss A Wake Up Call For Team India Before World T20

It was a shocker of a match for India on Tuesday evening in Pune. On a relatively green track at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, India first lost the toss and then the plot while batting first.

A Sri Lankan rookie pacer Kasun Rajitha took two wickets in the very first over of the match to put the hosts on the back-foot. From there on, the Indian middle-order did try to repair the innings with an aggressive bent of mind, but none of them could deliver the goods.

The reason? Starting from Rohit Sharma to Hardik Pandya, everyone struggled against the bounce and disciplined pace and swing of the Lankan attack. Nothing went in favour of the Indians in the first essay of the match, as they were bowled out in the 19th over.

The highest scorer for India was off-spinner R Ashwin, which goes to show how India batted in the opening game of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. This match was indeed a wake-up call for the team.

However, India are very determined to ensure that the glorious uncertainty of the game doesn’t affect the team in the next two matches in Ranchi and Visakhapatnam. The Pune game was undoubtedly a damp squib, but India are extremely keen to get back in their element.

They want to stay ahead of their opposition without underestimating them at any level. Will MS Dhoni and his men turn it around on Friday and level the series? Ranchi being the home ground for the Indian captain, you can’t overrule a Dhoni special for sure.
