What came as a scary news for both the Indian team and fans alike, captain MS Dhoni suffered a muscle spasm in the practice session on Monday evening.

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) reacted swiftly to name Parthiv Patel as MSD’s backup for the Asia Cup, raising speculations about the severity of the injury.

But, fans need not to bring worrying lines on their forehead, as Dhoni’s injury is not that severe, and the team management had just decided not to risk the captain.

According to a team official, as quoted by the Deccan Herald, Patel was named the backup just as a precaution and Dhoni’s injury is not much series.

“He felt uncomfortable in the morning,” a team official told about Dhoni. “So it was decided there was no point risking him.”

“Wicketkeeping is a specialised area so it was decided to fly in Parthiv. It is just for the sake of precaution. There is nothing serious.”

Team India is currently gearing up for its first game of the Asia Cup that will be played against the hosts Bangladesh on February 24 in Mirpur.
