Like any other department of the game, wicketkeeping is an important aspect. It is really unthinkable to win Test without a specialist wicketkeeper.
Like Rahul Dravid who had to stand tall behind the stumps in ODIs a one time, another stop-gap keeper from his state, KL Rahul, had to do the same after Wriddhaman Saha was ruled out with an injury in the 2nd Test match against Sri Lanka.
To India’s delight, KL Rahul came out with flying colours. He was simply outstanding and moved behind the stumps like a regular keeper. He also took an important catch off pacer Umesh Yadav to dismiss Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews.
Earlier, KL Rahul had scored 108 and gave a solid foundation to the Indian innings. He couldn’t make much with the bat in the second, but he was always there to stand up and be countered. Probably, that is the reason Rahul was adjudged the man of the match.
As reported by Drcricket7 on Sunday, Ravichandran Ashwin also played a big role in India’s win with another five-wicket haul. He is progressing well in Test cricket and showing great promise to produce more dream spells for the country.
Even his senior colleagues, Amit Mishra, is delivering as if he had been a regular in the team when in reality he is playing back-to-back Tests after a long time.
All this augurs well for India. They have leveled the series and all eyes will be on the third Test, where the visitors are expected to complete a historic.
But Sri Lanka won’t be pushovers, they will follow the advice of their outgoing legend Kumar Sangakkara. That is — it’s more important to win the battle than the war.
