Smiling faces sometimes don’t always tell the truth. They also show no traces of what had happened in the past. Very often, the Indian cricket team too has to go through such a similar phase.
Deliberately, the players hide their real feelings and paint a trouble-free image on their faces when fresh challenges arrive. They, practically, show no sign of remorse and don’t want their opposition to gauge their inner thoughts.
Such are the demands of modern cricket and yet the Indian team copes, and copes very well! Ahead of the opening Test series against the Proteas, this Indian team is no different.
Virat Kohli and men are in good spirits. They have stopped worrying about failures. They know that not many will pat your back when the chips are down. Yet, you have to be self-motivated.
The hosts also want to put the record straight that they are no pushovers at home. The T20 and ODI loss is a thing of the past and now it’s a different battle field.
The South Africans won’t be getting a flat Test deck for sure. If they are really looking to dominate the Indian spinners on an expected dry surface, the likes of Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers will have to bat out of their skin.
The Indian team also has physiological advantage of winning a Test series in Sri Lanka after 22 years. They looked in real aggressive form during the last two matches of that Test series, which India won by a 2-1 margin.
Under Virat Kohli’s tutelage, they bowled and batted with fire. A similar sort of approach is expected to rule to the roost in the Indian camp when the first Test begins.
However, the conditions in Mohali are different to what it was in Sri Lanka. Even the opposition is different. India would still like to go out there in search of a smile that stays!
