England vs Sri Lanka: Chris Woakes Replaces Ben Stokes for 2nd Test

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named its 12-member squad for the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka, starting May 27 at the Riverside Ground.

Allrounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the match owing to an injury in the left knee. He has been replaced by Warwickshire’s Chris Woakes.

Stokes, who sustained an injury in the 1st Test, underwent scans, and the medical team advised him to miss the the second match against the Lankan Lions.

Apart from Stokes, there is no major change in the England squad for the second match, and the Three Lions are expected not to make any change, barring Stokes.

England won the first Test comprehensively by thumping the Islanders by an innings and 88 runs at Headingley, inside three days.

Pacer James Anderson picked a ten-wicket haul, while wicketkeeper batsman Jonny Bairstow struck a magnificent century, stitching a solid partnership with Alex Hales, to help England post a competitive total.

England Squad for 2nd Test: Alastair Cook (c), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Jake Ball, Stuart Broad, Nick Compton, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Joe Root, James Vince & Chris Woakes.
