Crunching the Numbers: India v West Indies Stats Highlights

Team India scripted a superb comeback in the second one-dayer at Feroz Shah Kotla to even the five-match series 1-1. Mohammad Shami was again the wrecker-in-chief and finished with four wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra also played their parts in a stunning victory.

Indian skipper MS Dhoni was all smiles after the encounter and knew how crucial the victory it was from team’s point of view. Virat Kohli, after a long time, was among runs and Suresh Raina was at his dazzling best and Dhoni finished the innings superbly.

Here are some of the highlights of second ODI:

1.) Virat Kohli (62) made his 50th fifty-plus score in ODIs (19 hundreds and 31 fifties). He became eighth Indian to do so after Sachin Tendulkar (145), Rahul Dravid (95), Sourav Ganguly (94), Mohammad Azharuddin (65), MS Dhoni (65), Yuvraj Singh (64) and Virender Sehwag (53).

2.) Kohli is the second quickest in ODI annals to score 50 fifty-plus scores taking 140 matches to accomplish this feat. Only Viv Richards (136 matches) did so in fewer matches than Kohli.

3.) India’s total of 263 for seven was their highest in a day-night match at Feroz Shah Kotla, beating 238 for two they made against England in 2011.

4.) At one stage West Indies were 170 for two. They were then bowled out for 215, losing last eight wickets for an addition of only 45 runs!

5.) This is West Indies’ second worst eight wicket collapse against India. In 2011 World Cup at Chennai, West Indies lost their last eight wickets for only 34 runs – from 154 for two to 188 all out!

6.) Mohammed Shami (4-36) returned his best figures in ODIs, bettering 4 for 50 he took against Bangladesh at Fatullah earlier this year.

7.) Shami became seventh Indian bowler to take four wickets in two consecutive games (he had taken 4 for 66 in the first one-day international at Kochi).

8.) Shami is the third Indian bowler – after Anil Kumble and Venkatapathy Raju- to claim two four-wicket hauls against West Indies.

9.) This was Shami’s fourth four-wicket haul in calendar year 2014. He thus became first Indian bowler to claim four four-wicket hauls in a calendar year. Five bowlers – Narendra Hirwani, Anil Kumble, Ajit Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar- had taken three four-wicket hauls in a year

10.) India have now won last six consecutive ODIs played at Feroz Shah Kotla (completed games only). The last time India lost a match here was in April 2005 against Pakistan.
