The Melbourne Renegades have signed destructive West Indies opener Chris Gayle, who is currently playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indians Premier League, for the forthcoming Big Bash League season 2015-16.

This will be Gayle’s second stint in the Big Bash League, after playing for the Sydney Thunder in the 2012-13 season. Gayle would strength the Renegades batting line-up, pairing with Aaron Finch at the top-order.

“It’s exciting to be coming to the Melbourne Renegades in the sporting capital of Australia,” Gayle said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the fans, getting to know the city a little more and helping the team into the finals in BBL 05.”

David Saker, the Renegades’ coach, said the addition of Gayle will strengthen the team and his big-hitting prowess will be beneficial for the squad.

“Chris’s abilities and experience goes without saying,” Saker said. “He has tremendous skills both as an explosive T20 batsman but also as that genuine all-rounder you need.”

“He’s someone who can inspire the squad, particularly among our batsmen, with his confidence and his ability to back himself and flick the switch when the time is right.”
