World Cup 2015: MS Dhoni spot-on with fielding placements

Team India

So far in the World Cup, Team India has been electric on the field, not only players like Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were throwing themselves on the field, but Mohit Sharma and Mohammed have also demonstrated some fine fielding prowess.

In the last match against South Africa, Team India produced a couple of run outs at crucial junctures, sending AB de Villiers and David Miller back to the pavilion. Importantly, those run outs were done by Mohit and Shami, respectively.

India’s fielding coach R Sridhar has praised skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for placing the right fielder at the right place. Sridhar said MS Dhoni knows the dynamics of the field, which helps him put fielders in the correct areas.

“Dhoni is spot-on when it comes to field placements, depth of the fielders, high traffic zones where you have your best fielders, understanding the depth and the angles and knowing the distance between two fielders,” Sridhar said.

“Where you stand and how deep you stand differs from venue to venue. All our fielders know their field positions and are alert and focused on the match dynamics,” he added. “They read the match situations well and understand the strong points of the batsman at the crease.”
