Need to choose between quick and good bowlers, insists MS Dhoni

Not so long ago, the Indian cricket team was playing genuine quicks – Varun Aaron, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma – together but as the time passed the team had to make some tough choices.

Among the ‘genuine quicks’ only Umesh is in the team, Aaron has been dropped owing to inconsistency, while Ishant is only part of the Test team and hardly plays limited-overs cricket.

In the meantime, Mohit Sharma and Dhawal Kulkarni have stamped their marks with string of consistent performances. Mohit was India’s star performer in the World Cup, while Kulkarni have made his limited opportunities count.

India limited-over skipper MS Dhoni, after the ODI series loss against Bangladesh, has said that it is time to make decision and choose between quick and good bowlers.

“This win is good, but we need to make a decision if we want quick bowlers or if we want good bowlers even if they are not quick,” Dhoni said. “We have been backing too many quick bowlers who haven’t been bowling well.”

Umesh, who played two out of three matches in the series, only managed to take a couple of wickets, while leaking plenty of runs. Dhawal, meanwhile, produced crucial breakthroughs for the team.
