Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has given his thoughts on MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Sehwag feels that the limited-overs captain should continue to lead the Indian team atleast till the 2019 World Cup.

“He should continue as captain till the next World Cup,” Sehwag said during a television interview. “If he does so, he can leave behind a good World Cup team. And if he retires…you can imagine.”

The ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ insisted that India doesn’t have anyone to replace Dhoni in the middle-order. He also pointed out that the Indian team lacks a finisher in the shorter formats of the game.

“Even now when Dhoni is there, people have to think about who should bat at 5th, 6th and 7th positions,” Sehwag pointed out. “If Dhoni is not there, the 5th, 6th and 7th slots will become absolutely free.”

Dhoni had retired from Test cricket during the 2014 Australia series. He is now playing ODIs and T20s, and captaining the side in both the formats. The Indian captain recently led India to the semifinal of World T20.

The Ranchi-born has an unmatchable record as a skipper. He has two World Cups (ODI & T20), Champions Trophy and various trophies to his name.
