India’s top performer in the Port of Spain was Ajinkya Rahane. He scored a brilliant century to lead India to a massive score against the West Indies. This came after he didn’t get a chance in the Champions Trophy.
India’s openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were in great form. Rahane stepped in during the ODI’s and made a 50 plus score. He has remained India’s preferred back up opener in limited-overs format.
He gives India an option of selecting an extra bowler because of his ability to bat in the middle order as well.
“Jinks (Rahane) has great potential at the top of the order,” Virat Kohli said. “But when Rohit and Shikhar as an opening partnership play well in one-day cricket then that becomes a powerful package for us.”
“Jinks is always in there for us as the third opener, and having got the opportunity in this series he has batted really well. Today, the way he paced himself I thought was really, really nice,” he added.
Kohli considers Rahane as the extra bowler India can take in a big tournament like 2019 world cup.
