“Sri Lanka pace bowler Dasun Shanaka has been fined 75% of his match fees for ball tampering against India during the second day’s play in the Nagpur test”- said by ICC statement.

Shanaka was penalised for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct which relates to “changing the condition of the ball in breach of clause 41.3”.

Not only the fine has been charged but also three demerit points have been added to Shanaka’s disciplinary records. If these demerit points tally count totals to four or more within 24 month period, Shanaka will face a ban.

Shanaka picked up the seam of the ball

He was caught in the 50th over of India’s innings through the TV cameras when he was picking an area on the ball next to the seam several times. This charge was laid after the play by on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Richard Kettleborough, third umpire- Nigel Llong and fourth umpire C Shamshuddin.

There is no need for the formal hearing as the pacer admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC Match Referee David Boon.

The visitors are fighting hard against top-ranked India in the three-match series. The first Test ended in a draw and the second test has been won by India by an innings and 239 runs.

The third test is scheduled from 2nd December to 6th December in Delhi.
