Sri Lanka has received a major setback ahead of facing England in the 1st Test at Headingley, as they have lost Dhammika Prasad to a shoulder injury.
The team has confirmed that Prasad will not take part in the 1st Test, as he needs time to fully recover from the injury he sustained against Essex in the practice match.
Initially, it looked nothing more than a niggle, but Sri Lanka coach Graham Ford informed that it is much serious they they had initially thought.
“He’s not available for the first Test and it’s an ongoing assessment, on a daily basis,” Ford said. “I am hoping that we can get him bowling again fairly soon.”
“Then we’ll have to build him up and get quite a number of overs bowled in the nets in order to prepare him for potentially the second and third Test,” he added.
Sri Lanka are in England to play three Test matches, five one-dayers and a one-off T20. The opening Test match will be commence on May 19 at Leeds.
“The boy’s in very good form and so much of being successful is players walking out with confidence,” the Sri Lankan coach said.
