After successive heartbreaking defeats in the Indian Premier League, Rising Pune Supergiants managed to register a win, beating Delhi Daredevils in Vizag. Rising Pune Supergiants defeated the Daredevils by 19 runs (D/L).
This win may not have any impact for the Supergiants in terms of reaching the IPL playoffs, but the defeat has surely dented Delhi’s chances of reaching the knockouts.
Delhi was required to win their remaining three matches, but a loss against the Supergiants has ensured that they need to rely on others’ results as well.
Earlier, Pune captain MS Dhoni won a good toss, and elected to bowl first on a very humid evening. His decision paid off when Delhi were restricted to just 121.
Adam Zampa and Ashok Dinda picked three wickets each for Pune. Zampa, in particular, was the wrecker-in-chief and demolished the middle-order.
Zampa and Ravichandran Ashwin used the sharp turn they were getting, and never allowed the Daredevils to play freely throughout the innings.
Thanks to Chris Morris’ late thrust, Delhi managed to go pass 120 runs mark, but it proved too little against Pune’s mighty batting line-up.
Usman Khawaja and Ajinkya Rahane provided Pune a brisk start, and even after former’s departure, runs kept on coming for the home side.
Rahane played yet another important innings for the Supergiants, and ensured that they remain ahead of the D/L par score in case of any rain intervention.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s loss have opened the points’ table dramatically once again, as any team from the top-six can still reach the playoffs.
