Young Mumbai sensation Prithvi Shaw is selected as the Captain of India for the upcoming ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup to be held early next year in New Zealand.
“The team of 16 players for the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2018 was picked up by All-India Junior Selection Committee. This event will be from 13th January to 3rd February 2018 in New Zealand,” said Amitabh Choudhary, the acting secretary of BCCI.
A camp will be held in Bengaluru starting from Friday (December 8-22) for the preparation of the tournament. Due to the Ranji matches, Mumbai’s Shaw and Bengal’s Porel will join the camp on 12 December.
India has won the U-19 World Cup three times in the year 2000, 2008 and 2012. Last year, India lost in the final against West Indies in Bangladesh.

Prithvi Shaw (Captain), Shubham Gill (Vice-Captain), Manjot Kalra, Himanshu Rana, Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Aryan Juyal (Wicket-keeper), Harvik Desai (Wicket-keeper), Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ishan Porel, Arshdeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Shiva Singh and Pankaj Yadav.
Standby players are Om Bhosle, Rahul Chahar, Ninad Rathva, Urvil Patel and Aditya Thakare.
