MS Dhoni Batting

Mahendra Singh Dhoni could be playing with a different set of bats when he next take the field for India. This is to adhere with the latest regulations laid down by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

According to the latest MCC guidelines, the thick edges of the bat will be limited to within 40 mm. MS Dhoni is the only batsman in the Indian team who uses a 45 mm bat. And against Sri Lanka, he will have to use the new willows.

Other batsmen in the Indian team, however, will remain unaffected. Virat Kohli uses a 40 mm thick willow. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul Shikhar Dhawan also use similar lighter bats.

Australia’s David Warner, West Indies’ Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle use a 50 mm thick bats. Pollard, however, has already started playing with a 40 mm blade, saying it doesn’t make any sense to wait till October.

Apart from edges, the MCC has also redefined bat sizes. The width and depth of the bat will be limited to 108 mm and 67 mm, respectively. It will be interesting to see whether these changes will affect the performances or not.
