Mohammad Shami Ruled Out of Australia Tour, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Named Replacement

What come as a severe jolt for Team India in Australia, pacer Mohammad Shami has been ruled out for atleast four weeks owing to a hamstring injury.

Shami was out of cricket for ten months after sustaining a major knee injury during the World Cup 2015. He was India’s leading wickettaker in the World Cup.

The Bengal pacer underwent knee operation in March, and recently made a comeback to cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, after that was drafted into the Indian team.

Losing Shami will be major setback for the MS Dhoni-led Indian team, which is preparing for the World T20, slated to take place in India.

A BCCI press release confirmed that Shami has sustained a “Grade II injury to his left hamstring” and will out of active cricket for “about 4 to 6 weeks”.

The BCCI has named seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar as Shami’s replacement, and he will be joining the team with immediate effect.
