Winning captain Virat Kohli hailed praises for the outstanding performances of the spinners in the second one day international (ODI) against Australia at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
He in particular praised the wrist-spinners who outperformed and led to India’s win in the second ODI giving it the lead by 2-0 in the five match series.
“Bhuvi’s (Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s) spell became even more important because we knew the wrist-spinners would do damage in the middle. The deliveries he got the batsmen out with were unplayable. You can count on Bhuvi for getting the breakthroughs”, said Kohli.
The captain praised Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
“ They are outstanding, they are two young guys bowling with a lot of heart, getting us those breakthroughs against a top quality side… I think it speaks volume about their character. Really augurs well for us how the team is shaping up,” said Kohli.
Speaking on the sidelines of the World Cup to be held in 2019, Kohli said that India had good choices in the allrounder slots.
“We have not only Hardik (Pandya) as an allrounder, now we have a couple of spinning allrounders as well in (Ravindra) Jadeja and Axar (Patel). So we have lot of options, plus we have all our bases covered at the moment,” he said.
Kohli got the Man-of-the-Match for his 107-ball 92 in India’s 252 all out.
