Sri LankaIndia vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI Match at Mohali, Chandigarh

Sri Lanka has won the toss and choose to bowl first. Eighteen-year-old Tamil Nadu off spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar receives his maiden ODI cap from coach Ravi Shastri. Sri Lanka stays with the same team going into the second ODI. Perera is confident that the overcast conditions will assist them and they will have to make use of this tricky wicket.

Debutante Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar is 18-year-old boy from Tamil Nadu and is a replacement for Kedar Jadhav. Jadhav due to injury was replaced by Sundar.

Sundar, who bowls off-spin and bats left-handed, is unlikely to get a game in the series but is enjoying his time in the Indian dressing room.

Sundar believes in his ability and how he attracted the attention of the selectors towards him in the IPL.
During a press conference yesterday, Sundar said that the team members were very supportive towards him during practice and guided him rightly.

“It has been my fourth day to be precise but I do not feel that I just became part of the team. I knew a lot of players before, have played with Mahi bhai (Dhoni) in the IPL. They all made me feel at home,” said Sundar.

In addition, talking about his role, in the team and knows that he has to perform with both bat and ball.
“I would definitely have to be ready to bowl 10 overs of off-spin and contribute with the bat no matter what position the team is in” Sundar added.

Talking about the playing conditions

Sundar praised and aspired for  Mahender Singh Dhoni’s batting at Dharamshala.
“You do see a lot of wickets like that. In a domestic season, you get to play two games on tracks similar to Dharamsala. The way Mahi bhai batted was great, he went on the counter-attack. Another 60-70 runs would have made a lot of difference,” said Sundar.

The second ODI between India and Sri Lanka is taking place at IB Stadium in Mohali. India is looking to redeem themselves after a not so good batting performance in the first ODI. Dhoni carried the team as he has done over the years and today we are in a different venue and a different pitch so the batters will need to produce. Lakmal was the star for Sri Lanka and he will look to continue with his fine form.
