The Indian team decided to rest opener Rohit Sharma for the upcoming limited-overs series against West Indies. They added youngster Rishabh Pant in place of his for the five ODIs and one-off T20 in the Caribbean.

India’s decision of resting Rohit is correct, as he had recently gone through a hip surgery. The off-time will help him to recover and maintain his fitness level, as he recently complaint stiffness in his knee.

When Kohli was asked about the reason of Rohit seclusion from the Indian squad and the Indian skipper said, “Rohit has come back and had a full IPL season, which was very hectic”.

“His IPL side reached the final and he got lesser rest than anyone else,” he added. “Plus, he had a massive hip injury and the muscles around that area are always vulnerable and today also he some stiffness in his right knee.”

“So, we want him to be careful because, after a massive surgery, you need to be careful. If you push yourself, you might end up missing 7 or 8 more months,” he concluded. “It was a conscious decision by everyone in the team to rest him for the series against West Indies.”
