Dharamshala produced another gripping day of Test cricket, with the pendulum swung one way to the another. But, it was Australia, which ended the Day 2 at the top. The Indians, meanwhile, still 52 runs behind in the first innings.

It wasn’t the case until the second session, when India were in control with KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara. They both scored fifties, but Nathan Lyon scripted Australia’s comeback with four wickets in the day.

“There was a bit out there for me,” Lyon said. “We bowled well in partnerships. In the first couple of sessions, didn’t do much, but as the day progressed there was variation in spin and also bounce.”

India still have a massive task in hand to get past Australia’s total in the first innings. At stumps, on Day 2, Ravindra Jadeja and Wriddhiman Saha were at the middle, with India at 248-6, trailing by 52 runs.

Earlier in the day, India got a good partnership between Rahul (60) and Pujara (57). They added 87 runs for the second wicket. Pujara then added 49 runs with captain Ajinkya Rahane for the third wicket. Later, India showed resistance with Rahane (46) and Ravichandran Ashwin (30), who added 49 runs.

“We would like to come out and bowl well and take the four wickets and then bat well,” Lyon said. “They are a world-class batting line-up, and you have to challenge them consistently. Long way to go in the rest of the series.”
