The Indian team gave a solid reply to Australia’s first innings total with KL Rahul and Murali Vijay. They added 91 runs, and at stumps the Indian team was at 120/1, trailing by 331 on Day 2 in Ranchi.
Rahul continued his fine run with the bat and struck his fourth fifty in five innings of the ongoing series. He, alongwith Vijay, endured Australia’s new-ball attack of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.

Australia did manage to get a big wicket of Rahul (67) in the final session. He was dismissed by Cummins, who made a comeback into the Australian team after a gap of five year. He was the only wicket fell for India in the session.
Vijay, meanwhile, kept the one end anchored and played a patient innings. He made an unbeaten 112-ball 42, and stitched an unbeaten 29 run stand for the second wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara.

Earlier, Australia posted an imposing 451 in their first innings. Steve Smith (178 not out) scored yet another hundred, while Glenn Maxwell (104) made his maiden Test century.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers and finished with a fifer. Umesh Yadav continued his good run and picked three wickets, while Ravichandran Ashwin chipped-in with one.
