Team India

Team India needs a new combination for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. And the time has come for Rohit Sharma to make way for Suresh Raina — who has been in good form with the bat in recent shorter versions of the game. There is time left for MS Dhoni to work out the best possible playing XI for the third Test, but it’s now or never for certain players to get their act together.

Opening batsman KL Rahul can be of great help for the Team at this crucial juncture. But with both the current openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan in form, it won’t be easy for the Karnaktaka’s Rahul. Someone needs to chat with Cheteshwar Pujara about what he should be doing since he is the number 3 batsman in this team. His job is to stay at the crease and he is doing everything except that.

On the bowling front both pacers — Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav — have been conceding runs at an absurd rate. This having cost the Indian side dearly, a change in the pace combo should be on the cards. The strike bowlers are crucial to purchasing more wickets for India. But our batsmen are not scoring enough runs in the second innings to offer that cushion to their bowlers.

This team needs a Ravindra Jadeja who can easily apply the brakes on the opposition’s run spree. If Test bowling is all about pitching the ball in one spot and testing the patience of the batsmen, then Jadeja is the best man for the job right now.

It is simple cricket logic that if you can frustrate a batsman by not allowing him to score, he will probably do something silly to score off you. This is the age old tactic of test match cricket, which has remained relevant through the decades. Hopefully, the Indian team management will make the right changes to come back in the third Test match in Melbourne!
