Former England and Somerset batsman, Craig Kieswetter has announced his retirement from cricket, after failing to recover from an eye injury he sustained last summer.
Kieswetter suffered a nasty injury while playing Somerset, his English County Cricket side, against Northamptonshire, when a ball pierced through his helmet grill and hit on the face.
The England batsman suffered injuries on nose, eye socket and cheekbone, but managed to recover and made a return last September.
Kieswetter, however, couldn’t recover fully as his vision was not 100 per cent. He represented England 46 ODIs and 25 T20s as a wicketkeeper-batsman.
“After been given the opportunity to take some time off and step away from the game, I’ve come to the decision that wasn’t the easiest to make, yet I feel is the right one,” Kieswetter announced.
“Having gone through that experience of my eye injury and everything it entailed, I feel mentally I will never again be the player that I was,” he added.
