Australia’s Josh Hazlewood can’t wait for the final at WACA

Josh Hazlewood’s ODI comeback, in Sydney against India, started on a terrible note, as his first three balls of the match were leg-side wides to Ajinkya Rahane. The young Aussie fast bowler didn’t get a chance at redemption as rain played spoilt sport and the game was called off.

However, Hazlewood will get another chance and that too, on one of world’s fastest pitches, the WACA, in the final of the tri-series. Hazlewood is ready for the big game.

“It actually turned out to be a pretty good build-up to get five overs out in a match situation (5-0-25-0 in Sydney). So obviously coming off a few niggles from the Test series and slowly coming back feels good. A few more days of training here and I’ll be ready to go on Sunday,” he said.

“Obviously the conditions here suit the quicks so probably we will play a few more of them here as compared to other venues. That means the team will change a little bit but everyone is fit and with Mitch (Johnson) coming back in, it’ll be good to see him bowl fast on Sunday.”

While Hazlewood impressed everyone in his maiden Test series against India a month back and is considered to be a promising young fast bowler for the country, he thinks he has a long way to go before he can consider himself a certainty in the team.

“I obviously had a good series against South Africa as well in winning that series (against India) but we’ve got some great young quicks here, with Mitch leading, we’ve got Starc and Cummins as well. So, there is a great competition for spots at the moment and whoever gets a crack on Sunday will be trying to put their hand up again,” he said.

However, the young speedster is looking forward to take another step towards being a regular fixture in the team, with the tri-series final. “Hopefully the conditions suit me as they usually do here and all the quicks. Hopefully it’s nice, fast and bouncy and swings around a bit.”

Hazlewood said Australia are ready for both India and England come the final. “It’s obviously huge especially playing against two quality teams in the tri series who have played pretty good cricket so far. Hopefully we can get that complete game on Sunday and take that momentum into the World Cup.”
