Team India is to play four-match Test series against Australia and the selectors have opted for a young yet balanced squad for the much-anticipated series. Karnataka batsman KL Rahul and leg-spinner Karn Sharma are the most talked about inclusions into the squad and are players to watch out for in the series starting December 4.

Rahul and Karn have made cut for the Test series against Australia on a back of fine performances in the domestic season. Karnataka middle-order batsman Rahul is considered as a new-big thing in Indian cricket, while Karn has impressed one and all in the limited opportunities he has got with the national side.

Rahul grabbed everyone’s attention by pilling more than 1000 runs in 2013-14 domestic season. The 22-year-old Bangalorean has scored back-to-back fifties in his last two List A games for Karnataka against Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad. The wicketkeeper-batsman was the standout performer in the Duleep Trophy final against Central Zone by scoring two consecutive centuries in as many innings.

“This is BIG for someone who gets a call up to the Indian Test team for the first time in his life and who has dreamt about it for the last twenty years,” Rahul said “I have woken up every day thinking about playing Test cricket for the country with the best and this is a dream come true.”

“I don’t have words to describe how much this weighs but it definitely means a lot to me,” he added. “It is one of the biggest days in my life till now. It is a big day for me and my family. Representing the country is a dream that every cricketer has when he starts off playing cricket.”

Meanwhile, leggie Karn is also rewarded for his good run of form in the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Railways in the domestic competition. Karn has played two games for the men in blue in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and despite going wicketless he impressed everyone with his control and tight line-and-length.

Karn has experience of playing in oversees conditions as he made his international debut against England in Birmingham T20 international. He picked one wicket and left the English batsmen guessing with his legbreaks and googlies.

The 27-year-old from Meerut has taken 66 wickets in 34 first-class matches he has played so far at an average of 28.87, since making his debut in 2007. Even former India skipper Rahul Dravid has tipped Karn to come up with impressive performance in the tour Down Under.
