It was another turning track at the Guyana’s Providence Stadium, but this time it was the Australian team which took its advantage and completed a thumping, bonus point win over West Indies in the ongoing tri-series.
Spinners Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa set up the win, and later David Warner completed his unbeaten fifty, and also the chase to seal the game by six wickets with 146 balls to spare.
Windies spinner Sunil Narine provided quick jolts in the middle, by dismissing Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell cheaply, but Warner ensured no further hiccups.
“It would have been nice to keep it clinical,” Steve Smith said. “To get over the line with a bonus point, it is still pretty pleasing. Hopefully, we can keep building. The spinners were magnificent today.”
“It may be the same surface against SA and they are licking their lips,” he added. “Warner was calm and composed and got the team over the line. South Africa will be a challenge and I daresay it will be a battle of spinners.”
Earlier, Australia managed to restrict West Indies to a paltry 116 in under 33 overs. Zampa and Lyon wretched havoc and finished with three wickets each.
Mitchell Starc, who was making a return to international cricket, finished with two wickets, while Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell took one wicket each.
