Former player Virender Sehwag and former Australian allrounder Tom Moody have applied for the position of India coach. According to reports, current incumbent Anil Kumble is no longer a frontrunner in the race.
Kumble got a direct entry and he did not need to re-apply, proposed a presentation containing future plans for the next two years leading up to the 2019 world cup. Though he “may not be the favourite”.
“Yes, there’s no doubt that India did well at home. But this (coach selection) is not necessarily going to be viewed from that prism alone,” an official said. “A lot of factors have to be taken into account.”
“But the biggest question is whether Virat and Anil are comfortable working with each other”. Kohli, however, had contradicted the statement by stating that there are no problem between him and Kumble.
The BCCI official said, “It was never so big or serious that a chat could not resolve”. However, there are issues between Kohli and Kumble but it “snowballed” into something bigger, added the official .
“The way this is going, it’ll have to be between Viru (Sehwag) and Moody, depending on how the advisory committee goes about it,” the official said.
