Virat Kohli’s Bad Run a Concern Before Champions Trophy?

It is still an unbelievable story of this IPL. Royal Challengers Bangalore which played last final last year isn’t able to chase a winning score as low as 139. The bigger surprise is even Virat Kohli’s presence not making a difference.

The form of the entire team is so low that even an odd fifty or sixty from Kohli’s bat won’t make any impact. Against King XI Punjab, RCB were expected to raise the bar and at least play to show some semblance of fight.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t any. Barring Mandeep Singh and Pawan Negi, none of the top-order batsmen could find their feet. Sandeep Sharma was again at it. He took the wickets of Chris Gayle, Kohli and AB de Villiers.

The match was as good as over after that. The worrying bit is the way Kohli got out while trying to smash the ball.

There are a few supporters like former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene who said that a cricketer like the Indian captain can’t be hauled up every time for not scoring just because he is one of the best in the business.

Also, the long season factor which saw a batsman like Kohli sustaining throughout all the formats. It’s not easy. Therefore, dismissing Kohli right away by saying that his form is a worry isn’t correct.

The kind of mental and physical strength this Delhi cricketer has, no challenge would be big enough to crumble him. If Kohli hasn’t scored runs, it could also mean that he would be fresh for the Champions Trophy!
