Young opener KL Rahul made an impressive hundred against Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test to help India setup a competitive score in the 1st innings.
It was the second Test hundred from KL Rahul in only his fourth Test for India, but more than the way he batted was pretty impressive.
India had lost two quick wickets of Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane, but steadied the India innings with skipper Virat Kohli and then with Rohit Sharma, who made fifties.
As the innings progressed, KL Rahul started growing in confidence, much like his maiden Test ton against Australia in Sydney.
Skipper Virat Kohli also praised Rahul for playing a mature innings against Sri Lanka, after a fluctuating start and was impressed by the Karnataka-born batting prowess.
“I want guys to be more expressive and I want guys to share their ideas with me,” Virat Kohli said. “I want them to speak their mind because they are intelligent cricketers.”
“They are going out there, creating opportunities to score runs,” he added. “For someone like Rahul, he’s young, but so mature in getting those hundreds so early on in his career.”
Team India managed to level the series by beating Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test, after going down badly in the opening match of the series at Galle.
The Virat Kohli-led side lost the opening match from a winning position, but closed out the 2nd Test to make the 3rd Test the series decider.
