The 2015 World Cup will be playing in totally different conditions from the Indian sub-continent but before heading Down Under Team for tune up series, India are to face West Indies in five ODIs, one-off T20 and three Tests.

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni before the series opener in Kochi insisted that his side is concentrating on the assignment in hand and is determined to clinch the series against the touring party.

The World Champions are clearly favourites to win the series, despite missing the services of Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin in the ODIs. Rohit is currently nursing multiple injuries, while Ashwin is rested for the series.

Dhoni during the press conference also pointed out the importance of winning the toss as dew in day/night games would affect the team bowling second. The Indian skipper also hinted that Ajinkya Rahane will continue as an opener, despite having Mural Vijay in the squad.

Rahane opened the innings with Shikhar Dhawan in the England tour, when Rohit was ruled out because of figure injury. The duo of Dhawan and Rahane will open the innings for India in the first ODI at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

“The toss is going to be crucial, so is the weather and hence bowling second would be very tough for the spinners,” Dhoni said. “The dew is also going to be there. The World Cup is our goal but the immediate task is to win the present series.”

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is a happy hunting ground of the men in blue, as the hosts have won six out of ten encounters at this venue. However, the weather is expected to play villain as rain is predicted in next two days in Kochi.
