It is raining talent on the grounds of Indian cricket team right now. Be it at the domestic level or at the highest level, the numbers are overwhelming as far as the talent pool is concerned.

And a lot can be attributed to the forerunners in the sport. It is something which MS Dhoni had always dreamt of in the capacity of a captain of the Indian team and as a player across all formats.

He with his vision and ability to sniff out talent, has been working for years towards making this possible. Now that his wish has become true, it’s a moment or pride and satisfaction for the former Indian captain.

Kudos to the erstwhile Indian captain, who undoubtedly holds the distinction of winning almost every title in last nine years of his career. What more, he wishes the same for the future cricket generation in the making!

Coming to names, the list is endless. Starting from Karun Nair, who batted in the lower middle order in the England series. He came out guns blazing and scored a triple hundred, others who took share of the fame.

Kedar Yadav, Manish Pandey and Ambati Rayudu, just to name a few. All of them are capable to hit the ground running. Things have come to such a pass that the selectors don’t have to wrack their heads for alternate players.

When settled players like Ajinkya Rahane or Rohit Sharma get out of the team due to an injury or anything else for that matter. There is always a replacement waiting. At some level, it’s challenging for selectors also to filter out the best from the ones who have excelled in the domestic circuit.

Cutting to the spin department, Dhoni invested greatly to make Ravindra Jadeja, who has also become a top Test bowler in the world along with R. Ashwin. But if in a situation, both get injured or the top Indian spinners are rested, a next generation of spinners are waiting to take their place.

India already has tried two off-spinners in the playing XI – Ashwin and Jayant Yadav. And in the left arm section, Axar Patel, Shabaz Nadim and Kuldeep Yadav are waiting in the wings to grab Jadeja’s place. Clearly an indicator, of happier times in Indian cricket.

However, the one area which needs a little bit of testing is the fast bowling department. Of course, the work load was comparatively less for pacers in the home series against New Zealand and England. And, a proven bowler like Ishant Sharma had to sit out in most of the Tests because the likes of Mohd Shami and Umesh Yadav were performing.

But they all would be tested when India play outside Asia. These are small areas with room for improvement. Overall, right now, it’s time to celebrate abundance of talent. Long live the bat, the ball and the stalwarts of the game!
