Both Indian spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, have bowled a lot lately across formats. They must have been feeling the heavy workload, and the Indian team management is fully aware of the fact.
Reportedly, both Jadeja and Ashwin might be rested for the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. Their heavy workload is the reason the selectors are contemplating resting them for the five ODIs and one-off T20.
Team India’s hectic schedule in the coming months will also prompt selectors to try others. Jadeja and Ashwin have already bowled 108.2 and 108.3 overs, respectively. Ashwin, in particular, needs a much-deserved break now.
Ashwin will lead India’s attack in the 3rd Test. He will probably end up bowling more than 150 overs in the Test series. Jadeja, meanwhile, will warm the bench in the final Test after facing a one-match suspension from the ICC.
The selectors will soon pick the squad for the limited-overs series. Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal and Krunal Pandya are in line, if selectors decide to rest their frontline spinners in the ODI and T20 games.
