The Indian team won the toss and went into the cruise mode with their openers. KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan put up a record 188-run partnership to put the Indian team on top at the first-half of the day.
Dhawan completed his hundred, while Rahul scored his seventh successive fifty. But, Sri Lanka struck back with Pushpakumara, who picked three wickets in the day. Sandakan, meanwhile, took two wickets.
India, however, lost Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane cheaply. The Indian captain, Virat Kohli, made a handy contribution of 42. At stumps, Wriddhiman Saha (13 not out) and Hardik Pandya (1 not out) were in the middle.
