Abhinav Mukund is someone with more than eight thousand first-class runs. When the selectors picked him as a replacement opener in place of Murali Vijay, they knew Mukund could come good.
The Tamil Nadu cricketer has made it count with a fine 81 in the second innings of the Galle Test. Mukund may have been very disappointed to have missed out on the opportunity to score a big one.
In the second essay of the match, he was ready for the challenge and responded with a very refreshing knock. It is something which he has been doing very often for his state team Tamil Nadu.

Overall, it is a good sign for Indian Cricket Team that Mukund that he is smashing runs. Unfortunate, when KL Rahul is back in the action, Mukund would have to make way despite his good show in the second innings.
But the Indian team management would be impressed with the fact that the Test opening slot isn’t just restricted to the regular ones. The fact that a players like Mukund is always ready to do the job.
It augurs well for the team when they travel outside the sub-continent. In nutshell, the message is loud and clear: Mukund’s batting in the second innings shows India’s superior bench strength.
