Former South Africa pacer Allan Donald has joined the Australian Cricket Team as their bowling coach on a temporary basis for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.

Donald, who is considered as one of the greatest fast bowlers to have represented the Rainbow Nation, has replaced Craig McDermott, temporarily.

Australia are set to tour the island nation for three Test matches, five one-dayers and two T20Is, on a two-month long tour, commencing in July.

Darren Lehmann, coach of the Australian team, is happy to have got the services of Donald, who played 72 Test matches and 164 one-dayers for the Proteas.

“He brings a wealth of experience with him and our guys will benefit greatly from having him around,” Lehmann said. “His Test record speaks for itself and he was without a doubt one of the most formidable bowlers of his generation.”

Australia don’t have a great Test record when it comes down to playing in the Indian sub-continent, as they have won just thrice in their last 17 games.

Out of the three wins, two came against Bangladesh, while the other one came against Sri Lanka, five years ago, in 2011, when Australia last toured the country.
