With Murali Vijay not in the team due to an injury, this series against Sri Lanka is a perfect opportunity for Shikhar Dhawan to make a mark. Dhawan had a great Champions Trophy in England and he also scored useful runs in IPL.
In fact, he looked in great touch in last three months or so. Therefore, there is no reason to believe why Dhawan can’t make most the opportunity in Sri Lanka. It’s clear that Dhawan and Rahul will open for the Indian team.
However, Dhawan would have to carry an extra pressure. He wasn’t in great form in the last season and kept coming in and out of the Test team. Last year, he was even made to play the Duleep Trophy to prove his fitness.

Not to forget that Dhawan played his last Test match in September 2016. He even had to go through the Ranji Trophy grind to prove his worth. Dhawan has worked his way up and scored 41 in the practice game.
India would be hoping that he makes amends and carry his England form in the Test series. The most encouraging stuff for Dhawan is that the team management is right behind him.
He had been through rough phases in the past, but his captain Virat Kohli had always backed him to the hilt. This time, he would be hoping to show more consistency in the longest version of the game.
