Shikhar Dhawan Becomes India’s Lead Scorer in Champions Trophy

Shikhar Dhawan has surpassed Sourav Ganguly to become India’s highest scorer in Champions Trophy. He also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of fastest cricketer to 1000 runs in ICC events.

Dhawan made a crucial 46 against Bangladesh in the semifinal. He has now overtaken Ganguly by scoring 680 runs. Dhawan has also become the first player to score more then 300 runs in two different editions of the tournament.

He played his first Champions trophy tournament in 2013, smashed 100 against South Africa and West Indies. He also scored 363 runs from five matches to win the cup, four years ago.

The Indian opener broke Ganguly’s record against Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy semifinal at Edgbaston. He also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of fastest cricketer in ICC day one international events.

Dhawan took 16 innings, while Tendulkar scored the same in 18 innings and Ganguly in 20 innings. Dhawan is the fourth highest run-scorer overall in the Champions Trophy.
