After batting, it was fielding, and now it is bowling. The woes doesn’t seem to be ending for MS Dhoni and Rising Pune Supergiants after their fifth loss in seven matches this season.
The Supergiants failed to defend 195 against Gujarat Lions, and their hopes of reaching the playoffs have almost ended, as they are now required to win six out of their remaining seven games.
Captain Dhoni admitted that they have failed to get the right combination, and their struggle with ball, especially with the new one, is hurting them.
“I feel we definitely need to improve our new-ball bowling,” MS Dhoni said. “We should crack the code. Otherwise, we will be at the receiving end.”
“Injuries are beyond control,” he added. “Still, more than the batting, the bowling has struggled. We have tried five-bowler combinations, six-bowler combinations.”
Interestingly, the Supergiants, despite suffering injury blows in the batting department managed to post a par total against the Lions, but the new-ball bowlers failed to deliver the blow in the powerplay.
Gujarat thrashed the Supergiants in the first six overs, and virtually ended their hopes of coming back in the match, with Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith.
