Ricky Ponting feels that Rahul Dravid is an ideal choice for the Indian Cricket Team coach role because of the experience and knowledge he has.
Ponting, who is currently coaching Mumbai Indian in the IPL, said that Dravid understands all three formats of the game, and is a right candidate for the job.
Dravid, after his international retirement, coached Rajasthan Royals, India A and India Under-19 team, and currently working with Delhi Daredevils.
“He’s got a lot of knowledge, is very experienced, and understands all three formats because he has worked in IPL,” Ponting said.
“He will be a great candidate but it depends on what the BCCI thinks is the best fit for the Indian cricket team and also depends on what the captain wants.”
“Whatever Virat (Kohli) wants around the Test team, I am sure the BCCI will listen to him,” he concluded.
The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) is in a stage of finalising the coach, which will be appointed before the Zimbabwe tour, starting next month.
Team India is without any coach since the departure of Duncan Fletcher. Ravi Shastri was operating as the team director, but his contract has also expired.
