Ravi Shastri feels that there is no need of organising the Champions Trophy. He said that fans have already enough ICC Tournaments to watch. And, the cricketing calendar is already packed with Tests, ODIs and T20s.

“If you ask me, five years down the line there will be very little 50-over cricket,” Shastri said. “There are too many ICC tournaments. Which event (sport) has so many World Champions.”

Shastri pointed out that everyone knows World Cup winners, but no one remembers who won the Champions Trophy. He even said that he fails to understand what ICC is trying to prove with this tournament.

“World Cup, T20, Test cricket (are fine),” Shastri said. “What do you need Champiosn Trophy for? What are you trying to prove? Who remembers (who won them in the past)?”

“If you ask me about the last 10-12 World Cups (winners), I will tell you, (but) you ask me (about) the last three Champions Trophy (winners) – I don’t know. The last one (in England in 2013) I will tell, because India won.”

The next Championss Trophy will take place in United Kingdom. India will participate as the defending champions.
