Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid’s name may be missing from BCCI’s cricket advisory committee, which consists of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, but he is likely to be inducted in other capacity.
Dravid’s role is yet to be defined by BCCI. However, sources said that he is likely to play a significant role with the team, which will be equally important like the cricket advisory committee.
“How can you ignore Dravid?” a source asked Dr Cricket. “He has been a very special cricketer and BCCI is committed to using his services in some other role. We will come up with an announcement in time to come.”
It also not made clear if Dravid would become the Indian coach by replacing Duncan Fletcher or would be appointed as Ravi Shastri’s role of team director. “It will be an important role that Dravid will be playing,” the source said. Another source insisted that Dravid would be the most liked coaching staff in the Indian team if he is appointed in some capacity.
There is a possibility that Ravi Shastri will continue to be the Indian team director for the Bangladesh tour. But it could be a temporary arrangement as Shastri is more inclined to doing live match commentary. “Shastri likely to continue as of now,” the source said.
It was also revealed that if Dravid is given a role in BCCI, his involvement with the IPL team Rajasthan Royals will not be hampering his chances.
