India may have lost the 1st Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle, but they will get a chance to redeem their fortune in the 2nd Test, which is scheduled to be played from Thursday onward in Colombo.
It’s a must win game for Virat Kohli and his men to stay alive in the series. It’s also the last match for one of the greats of world cricket – Sri Lanka Kumar Sangakkara.
Undoubtedly, the pressure is on Virat Kohli and his men to avoid another humiliation and, in order to stand tall in front of the challenges, the Indian batting will have to come good.
With an over emphasis on taking those 20 wickets to win a Test match, the Indian batting unit can’t lose its way. They will have to find the right answers for Ragana Herath, the left-arm spinner who almost single-handedly destroyed the Indian batting in the second innings of the Galle Test.
With Sangakkara bidding goodbye to the international cricket, this match could also celebrate the emergence of another Lankan star in making — Dinesh Chandimal — who was instrumental in changing the course of the opening Test.
In a way, this match is historic to Sri Lankan cricket in many ways. It will indeed need a special effort from India to stop Sri Lanka from running over them in the 2nd Test.
Also, the hosts are supremely confident after winning a Test from the jaws of defeat. Like India, they will be looking forward to rectify certain grey areas in their game, but the overall body language of the team has looked good.
