Mumbai Indians’ Psychological Edge Over Kolkata Knight Riders

Mumbai Indians’ Psychological Edge Over Kolkata Knight Riders

Just because it’s not happening just now doesn’t mean it will never happen. But as far as the Kolkata Knight Riders are concerned, they won’t be able to beat the Mumbai Indians again in the league this season.

Out of their two games against Mumbai, the KKR lost at both outings. These are the only two games that Gautam Gambhir and his men have lost in the competition.

Otherwise, the KKR have a good bunch of talent and experience. They bat well, have a range of good T20 bowlers and are also quite athletic on the field.

And yet, they don’t seem to have the perfect answer to why they lose to Mumbai all the time. Out of 18 matches that they have played between each other, Mumbai has won 13 of them in the previous nine years.

Interestingly, KKR lost the last two matches by the same margins – six wickets. The 2014 season was one of the better seasons for the KKR when they upstaged Mumbai twice.

So why does KKR have such a dismal track record against Mumbai when both the teams have been the IPL champions twice? Is it everything to do with Rohit Sharma?

The fact is that Rohit has a very good track record at home in Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium and can’t do much wrong there. Thursday was one such day when everything went according to his plan.

Similarly, the Eden Gardens, which is KKR’s home ground, is Rohit’s home away from home. It was at this venue that his outstanding international appearances took place.

Right from scoring a double hundred to his debut Test hundred, it’s all happened in Kolkata. If KKR happens to meet Mumbai again in the knockout stages, which could be Kolkata again, KKR need to be on their toes.
